We are starting Speech Therapy tomorrow. We got a grant- that we were encouraged to apply to by the speech therapist herself. I guess money does grow on trees. Who knew that in this economy there would be a grant that we would be eligible for?
Ok, so here is my little Meghan story for the week. Last night big surprise she got in trouble. I'm not sure I feel like going into the gory details but for the sake of this story I will try. Let's just say she has been pulling a new one on us lately that we find very frustrating. I will blog about it later, once I get a handle on it. Anyway, on this particular issue we just don't know how to respond. It is not possible to reason with her because we are not sure what she is understanding and if you ask her why she got in trouble she can't really tell us. It's not even possible to shame her into the correct behavior (if that would be the right tactic to use in this case) because she has no shame and no concept of shame. Discipline has to be dummied down to "X is good, Y is bad." If I try to explain anything like respect or self control ... well you can imagine. Not to say I don't explain it, it just goes in one ear and out the other.
So glad to see that I could get on your blog again. I know sometimes you wonder if you should keep it up, but I love reading your honesty about the funny and HARD parts of adoption. I find that to be such a struggle for me to write about and I just want you to know that I really appreciate you sharing your story with us!
ReplyDeleteToo funny! You have a spunky little girl on your hands! We are dealing with more discipline issues now and trying our best to handle things properly with Sophia. It's hard to know what she does and doesn't understand, and her disability makes it even harder than normal. But overall, she's doing well, for which we are thankful. Keep up the great work with Meghan!
