2 Months Ago Today...

2 Months ago today Meghan became an American Citizen. We touched down in Newark and she was home! Well almost, we still had to catch a flight to Atlanta and then drive 5 hours...but we were back in the USA and ready to start our life together.

What a difference we have seen in the last two months. Our house is so much calmer and peaceful. I think Meghan is really feeling at home and not so lost. We were in Atlanta last weekend and went to the Aquarium. We could NEVER have done that a month or two ago. Meghan stayed right with us and did not wander off let alone RUN AWAY. She was calm and agreeable. It was a great day.

I think that I have been venting a little too much on this blog lately so I want to make sure that I portray the positives as well as the negatives. Here are some great things that have been happening lately:

Ryan is not often annoyed by Meghan anymore.

Logan is nice to Meghan.

Griffin loves and cares for Meghan. He is very nurturing and takes care of her.

Christian loves playing with Meghan and is no longer hyper vigilant about what she is doing but more accepting of her.

Meghan loves all her brothers.

Meghan sleeps through the night in her own bed. When she does wake up she gets in bed with Griffin and he lets her.

Meghan is a good eater and likes all food except pizza.

Meghan will go to bed at night when the other kids are still up and running around.

Meghan is picking up English. Her vocab is good but her sentences are not.

Meghan is loving and affectionate.

Meghan loves to learn.

Meghan is looking to Mommy and Daddy for what she is allowed to do.

Meghan listens and makes eye contact a lot more.

Meghan loves for me to put bows in her hair.

Meghan loves new clothes (well, new to her...).

Meghan has a real knack for music and dance. I need to enrol her in a dance class.

Meghan loves to watch sports on tv.

Meghan loves her family and is beginning to understand what a family is.

Meghan loves to have her picture taken.

Meghan loves school.

Meghan's teachers like her and think she is smart.

Meghan is a daredevil- I just caught her on the zip line with her older brothers. (Very high- scared me).

Meghan is a good traveler, lucky for us because we are a road trip family - few swim meets are close to Hilton Head.

There are many more. Everyday we grow in our acceptance and love for each other. We are lucky to have her.

  1. What a beautiful little girl she is! So glad things are getting better...and I don't mind the venting at all! Thanks for your comment...our agency said it could take 1-3 months to get a civil ruling after the first court date, but I sure hope we are on the faster track. We are moving to Indiana this summer (job transfer/promotion for my husband) and really need to get our adoption done here before we move. Mother's Day sounds good!

  3. Thank you so much for giving us families waiting to adopt some positives today! It starts to get a little scary thinking ahead and wondering how it will be. I have to say though, that your honesty and candor with the negative moments is very genuine, helpful and quite necessary. Michele, I think you are doing a fantastic job and are doing everything right. I am sure there are moments when you pass your frustration level, but we all do and it's ok! I'm proud of you all and praying for your continued growth!

  4. I haven't checked in for a few weeks, so I just got caught up. It sounds like a super difficult adjustment for all involved, but I am glad to hear that it is getting smoother. And the part about Griffin letting her sleep with him is so cute, what a sweetheart! :)
