We are leaving in a few days and things have not quite been as smooth here as I would have hoped. I want the home to be a peaceful, calm, CLEAN place where I can do my nesting. I have made some last minute appointments this week, most notably- getting my hair cut (and colored -shh)(what a disaster it is right now, that's what I get for trying to save money and going way past the critical date).
Anyways, Christian has been sick for 3 weeks....or has he???? He seems to get well when he is home, or there's a birthday party or a football game. He missed 3 days in late October, and since then I have had to pick him up early from school 3 times! 3 times! How am I supposed to get all my last minute errands done and the house clean if he is playing hookie from school? He is a 1st grade drop out! Monday I had to go at 11 am to pick him up. I took him to the doctor because - really- 3 weeks of sickness? The doctor said he's fine, just a cough but here's some steroids to clear it up.
So yesterday I got the call again, twice. First the school nurse called and so I brought over his inhaler to clear up his lungs but after I explained to her I was leaving in a few days to get his new sister SHE had a talk with him and miraculously he healed himself and went back to class. An hour later his teacher called and he was lying on the floor with a blanket over him sick as a dog. Until I got there. Then I reminded her that I was leaving in a few days. I still took him home, just in case. And Miracle! He was healed of all his inflictions!!!!
Poor little guy. He does not want me to leave. Talk about attachment issues. He is overly attached. I don't know when that happened because he never was that way before. His brothers NEVER acted like that. They were more like "oh, your still here, I thought you'd left already."
What am I going to do for him? I spend tons of quality cuddle time with him reassuring him that no one will ever take his place in my heart and that he will always be my youngest boy. We have read books, everything. I don't think it's Meghan coming so much as it's Me and Tom leaving.
But it is now 1:30 and no phone call from the school so we are looking good.
So we are leaving in 5 days and I have been sort of around and around on just what documents we need to bring. I know other people have some questions too. So I will post what we are bringing and then after we go to AIT I will post what we needed and what we asked for.
We are bringing
1. Affidavit Concerning Exemption From Immigrant Vaccination Requirements for a Foreign Adopted Child (this had to be signed and Notarized).
2. I-600 filled out and signed
3. Application For Immigrant Visa and Registration, DS 230 filled out and signed
4. I-864 filled out and signed
5. I-604 filled out and signed
6. I-171H (original and a copy)
Our agency also said it would be good to have a copy of our homestudy and the referral. That's it. But we are also bringing 2-3 years past taxes, just in case.
Now I need to go think about packing! Anybody know how many checked baggage is free on overseas flights (Eva Air?). One, two or none? Right now I think I am checking a bag for me and one for Meghan, and then Tom is carrying on his bag and I will have a carryon. Then when we come back we have another seat so we can check another bag right? I will pack a duffel bag in the suitcase to fill up. I have to bring home everything we already sent Meghan PLUS lots of presents to all the people helping take care of my kids and or course my kids too!
Did I mention that we are leaving in 4 days? One week from today I will have my little girl!!

Praying for you and ALL your family as you adjust to the new normal soon! Thanks for the paperwork info...I'll be curious to see what was actually needed. Hope you can update your blog from Taiwan!
ReplyDeleteSo excited as you count down the days. Don't know if Eva is the same, but we flew on China Air and could take 2 bags each and they had to be under 40 pounds. We were allowed one carry-on plus a personal item (like a purse, laptop or diaper bag). Take some time for yourself during the next few days because it can be stressful as you worry about last minute details. Since Lexie was our first child, my husband and I went on a date night since we knew we wouldn't have many of those once we came back.
ReplyDeleteI don't have any info for you on the flights, but I am really excited for you! Leaving in 5 days!! I'm sorry your little guy is having a hard time with you leaving. Your travels to other side of the globe may seem so immense to him! It does for us, so just imagine our little guys! I will be praying for your safe travel and for peace for him.
ReplyDeleteMy nephew had a hard time with his mom & dad traveling. Are you setup to Skype him from Taiwan? They also tried doing something special for him with promised gifts for while they were gone. Its a hard age, he's still your baby, my guess is you're right, its more about you two leaving. You know your girl doesn't care about your hair, I'm sure you look great. ;0) I'm so excited for you!! Less than 3 days!
