Our first official family outing was to Taipei 101. We thought we would have lunch and then go up to the top. We have since learned why this was a mistake. Meghan is a napper. She has always napped as did all the kids in her group. She is not a rallyer. We have learned that she is a sweet girl, until she is past her nap. Then she is a naughty naughty girl. We should never have attempted Taipei 101. Lunch was ok, but then it was almost 2:00 and she was overdue. Needless to say we never made it up to the top (I think Tom was relieved, I however, have no fear of heights). So to celebrate our gotcha day we all went back to the hotel and fell asleep. Another mistake. Now we let her sleep to long.
Between my night and days mixed up, Tom trying to get some work done in the middle of the night and Meghan up late we were exhausted!
About this time I started to get sick. I was nauseous for the rest of the trip and could not eat a thing. Not even a croissant. Meanwhile, Tom thinks he's Andrew Zimmerman from Bizarre Foods and wanting to try all the exotic foods. Dragging me through streets and alleys, and night markets, weird smells and all. I was miserable. I don't know if it was a bug, something I ate, or nerves or jetlag but I was sick. I lost 3 pounds on the trip and I can not afford to lose weight (since home I have been eating potato chips trying to put it back on). I am not usually a picky eater- I mean I will eat all the sushi, and I consider myself a good traveler. But Asia threw me for a loop. Word to the wise, bring a jar of peanut butter when you go...just in case.
I ended up not feeling good before we got Kai and the smell from one of the food courts was terrible I didn't think I was going to make it back to the hotel room. I lived on Miso soup for breakfast and dinner and I also lost weight.
ReplyDeleteWe leave in a little over a week..I was debating on bringing a jar of peanut butter...Now I think I will...So good to hear about your travels!
ReplyDeleteIt's so good to hear about your travels. Thanks for getting us all caught up! Glad you are home safe and sound!
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear that the food wasn't very good for you. The only place that I got nauseous was at the night market. We were lucky because our guides took us to eat dim sum and to another restaurant for authentic taiwan food which was our best meal.
